My introduction to the “Ancients”

Never in my life would I have imagined that I would be able to see a true artifact proven to have existed over 2000 years ago outside of a museum display case. Then I went to Coins in the classroom!! Ohhhhhh myyyyyy. You would not believe what they had!!! Sitting in a black velvet lined case - - - coins that had been dated back to 500 B.C. Yes, I typed that right, 500 B.C. You get goose bumps just looking at them, then, then they told us that they were going to pass the display box around the room. I was waiting to hear about the security device attached to the box or have the armed men show up to guard the coins. Rod began to take the coins out of the box, one at a time, and tell us about the coins. Can you imagine if he accidentally dropped one? Oh the pressure he must be feeling - be so careful, don’t touch it, don’t drop it. Deep breath, he has taken the coin out of the protector. You will not believe what happened next. He passed the coins around the room, we were told to look at them, take them out of the package, touch them, and put them in our hands. Honest!! We were told to hold them. Can you believe how crazy these people are, they brought 500B.C. coins and then passed them around to let us experience the wonder and mystery of each coin.

Finally, it was my turn. They were in my hands, my hands were shaking just thinking about where the coins had been, who could have used them, what they had endured and survived. To now be here in Colorado, in my hands..OH MY!!!!!!!!!! What an experience. To have and to hold!!!!!!!!!!!!!
