"2006 and Beyond"
Greetings friends!!
Seems like we just had a new year and already we are saying goodbye to 2005
and hello to 2006. I cannot recall being any older, but certainly the passing of time does
mean that a little more age has happened to each of us, at least externally. I remember
my wife’s grandmother up in Waco on the occasion of her 94th birthday. She said she
woke up that morning and looked in the mirror. There was this old body that was
containing her young outlook on life. I have noted the same to a “younger” extent, at
least for the moment!!! I wonder where “I” went. Aging is such a fun thing. For
example, someone once noted that middle age is when men stop believing in Santa Claus
and start looking like Santa Claus. The other morning I said to myself; “that certainly
cannot be me in the mirror, I’m slim and youthful in my mind.” Time goes on. Welcome
to 2006 and beyond.
Consider what is ahead:
- Already it is time to continue your Greater Houston Coin Club
membership. Dues can be paid at the January 12th meeting or can be
mailed to the GHCC at Box 2963, Houston, 77252. Dues are $15 for
adults ($25 for a couple), $6 for junior members (ages 11-17), and $2 for
associate members (10 and younger). You might also consider bringing a
otential new member to the club meeting with you.
- Please consider volunteering
to prepare a pre-meeting meal and doing a
program during 2006. Most months are available for either or both.
- In January, a nomination committee
will be appointed. Nominations will
be presented in February, published in the March Double Shift, and voted
upon at the March meeting. Please consider any leadership roles that
you’d like to assume during the 2006/2007 GHCC year.
- Money Show of the Southwest. Looking good ya’ll . . . thanks for
volunteering. There are still a few open leadership positions. Talk with
Carl as soon as possible. Look for specific details in other articles in this
month’s Double Shift.
- Something old, yet something new . . . Did you know that we have a
GHCC library? John Barber gave a brief report on it at the last meeting.
There are a number of interesting books in the library. I am looking at
them even as I write. One of the bookcases in my office houses the library
for the time being. How about taking a look and using some of the
material in 2006. John will be publishing a catalogue of the material
available in the near future.
- One final issue with many more to come later . . . April 7th is the first Friday
of that month. This is the day traditionally set aside for officer installation and
evening of fun and festivities. Last year we went to Lunch at Sam’s, just up the
street from the church. We can certainly go back that way. On the other hand,
I’m happy to entertain any ideas for location. Go on ahead and mark the date
right now.
More to follow . . . see you for our next meeting, which will be on January 12th a week
earlier than usual. The change of date is necessary because of the new show set-up dates.
