"Coins in the Classroom"
$1,500 scholarships available, but
act soon!
The
Greater Houston Coin Club, Inc., a member club of the American Numismatic
Association, is offering a minimum of three “full scholarships” valued at up to
$1,500 each, to deserving middle and high school teachers from the greater
Houston metropolitan area to attend the American Numismatic Association’s 2008
School of Numismatics. Scholarship
winners will be enrolled in “Coins in the Classroom,” a five-day course taught
by representatives of the association’s educational department under the
direction of Rod Gillis, former public school teacher and coin enthusiast. The course will be held at lovely Colorado
College, Colorado Springs, CO from June 27, 2008 through July 4, 2008
.
“Coins in the Classroom” is an
innovative course designed specially to expose middle and high school teachers
to the use of coins to augment their standardized curriculum in social studies,
mathematics, World and American history or related disciplines (even
Latin!) The course consists of
presentations, interactive discussions and workshops directed toward
understanding how coins from ancient civilizations, Europe, Asia, the

transportation, tuition, room, board, class materials and for teaching aids to
be used when teachers return to their classrooms.
